ppm (Pages Per Minute)
Print speed is measured by the number of pages printed per minute. The higher the figure the faster the print speed.

pl (Picoliter) droplet size feature
Picoliter is a measure of liquid size.
(1picolotre = 1/1,000,000,000,000 liter.)
Brother’s new inkjet print head technology produces droplets as small as 1.5 picoliter and has the capability to accurately place these droplets on the paper.
Benefits
This technology produces less graininess, and therefore smoother and sharper images with finer definition.
*Note that images are for illustration purposes only
PictBridge
PictBridge is a standardized technology that allows printing images from a digital camera directly to a printer without having to connect the camera to a computer.
Once a PictBridge digital camera is connected to a compliant printer, print options appear on the camera monitor (LCD). The camera menu system is used to make settings such as print size, layout, media type and date.
Benefits
- The ability to quickly print the image displayed by interacting with the Digital Still Camera
- Provide a way for customers to have a very easy to use solution
*Note that camera is not included
USB Direct printing
USB Direct Printing saves time for users and offers organisations a simple solution for reducing office overheads. PDF, JPEG, TIFF and PRN files can be printed directly from a USB flash memory drive without having to boot up a PC, a perfect solution when the need to print is urgent.
*Note that Inkjet MFCs support JPEG files only for USB Direct Printing.
*Note that USB flash memory drive not included.
dpi(dots per inch)
Print resolution is always expressed in dots-per-inch (dpi). That is the number of dots produced on the paper per inch. Resolution indicates the quality of the printed output. A higher number of dots generally result in better quality.
Pigment ink
Pigment ink is a type of ink that is pigment based. The other type of ink is dye based ink. Brother inkjet MFCs uses pigment ink for black ink because pigment ink produces sharper text image.
Benefit
Pigment ink provides sharp text when printing on standard paper because there is less bleeding on plain paper when compared to dye-based ink.
Print emulations
Printer emulations are the languages that the printer uses to communicate with your computer when printing.
Generally speaking, the more emulations a printer supports, the more flexible it is when working with different types of computer system.
For example: If you have applications that require DOS support, you'll need one of the laser MFC products with PCL emulation. Most Brother laser MFC or Printer products offer PCL emulation, which is generally used for everyday office document printing.
Borderless printing
Primarily for printing photos, this enables you to get the edge-to-edge output — typically on heavier glossy or matte "photo" paper — that most people are used to seeing from commercial photo shops.

Secure Printing
When printing a confidential document, you can enter a private password on your computer before clicking the print button. The document will not print until you physically enter your password at the printer, ensuring your document is in your hands and therefore remaining confidential.
Benefits
With secure printing capability you can safeguard information throughout the entire printing process, tracking documents from the moment the print button is pressed to the arrival of a document in the right hands. This is printing made safe, giving you the confidence that your documents will not be collected by someone else and will remain confidential, even in the most open of environments. As well as the benefits to individuals to keep documents secure, there is potential savings in hardware costs eliminating the need for one printer per person.
Single pass engine
Thanks to a single-pass print mechanism, the Brother COLOUR Laser Series carries out COLOUR printing just as fast as monochrome printing - at a speed far faster than that of conventional four pass models.
